SCG Foundation<\/strong>, a public charity organization focusing on empowering \u201cpeople,\u201d especially children and youth who are the driving force for national development in the future, joined hands with the Foundation for Good Governance on Medicine <\/strong>in the project \u201cThai Kids Fight COVID,\u201d<\/strong>donating 100,000 cloth face masks worth 3,500,000 Baht to students in remote areas and students who have poor access to cloth masks. The effort aims to keep students safe from the COVID-19 pandemic. The partnership also launched a children\u2019s drawing and painting competition, \u201cThai Kids Fight COVID,\u201d<\/strong> for primary school students to encourage students to become conscious of self-care and protection at school amid the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Professor Emeritus Dr. Kasem Wattanachai, Privy Councilor as Chairman of Foundation for Good Governance on Medicine<\/strong>, said \u201cThai Kids Fight COVID is a project initiated by the Foundation for Good Governance on Medicine and alumni of the Certificate Course in Good Governance for Medical Executives Class 1-8, aimed at providing support towards the underprivileged children, especially primary pupils who are among venerable groups at risk of COVID-19 infection. The effort kicked off the project by providing high-quality cloth masks to primary school students level 1-4 in remote areas. The group works in collaboration with a network of 21 Crown Prince Hospitals and 11 Community Hospital Commemorating His Majesty the King\u2019s 80th Birthday Anniversary. Healthcare workers of the network help provide care and proper education on wearing a face mask, handwashing, and good hygiene practices to students and teachers.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr. Roongrote Rangsiyopash, President of SCG Foundation<\/strong>, disclosed, \u201cSCG Foundation is committed to promoting the capability and instilling a sense of social responsibility in children and youth. It has recognized the importance of wearing a cloth face mask in preventing the risk of infection among kids during semester break. The foundation has donated 100,000 pieces of face masks worth 3,500,000 Baht to children in remote areas via the Foundation for Good Governance on Medicine. The face masks are designed with high-quality and safe fabric materials made to provide a better fit for children. The face masks are colorful and appealing to children. Children can write their names on the mask to avoid loss or switching. Each child will be given two face masks.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Furthermore, SCG Foundation and the Foundation for Good Governance on Medicine also organized a drawing and painting competition \u201cThai Kids Fight COVID\u201d with the concept of self-care against COVID-19 at school. The competition aims at raising awareness among students on the importance of self-protection and good hygiene practices such as wearing a face mask, maintaining physical distancing, and handwashing. The competition is split into two categories: Primary 1-3 and Primary 4-6. The entry format is the paper size A3. Any drawing or painting styles, techniques, types are welcomed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cFor this drawing and painting competition, we received support from the Office of the Basic Education Commission (OBEC) to help publicize the competition in all primary schools under the supervision of OBEC, where students across the country can participate and submit their artwork to the contest. The competition is honored to have Clinical Professor Emeritus Udom Kachintor chair the judging panel, which includes several qualified jury members like Sangkom Thongmee,\u201d said Roongrote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Air Vice-Marshal Ittaporn Kanacharoen, Secretary-General of the Medical Council of Thailand<\/strong>, opined, \u201cIn many countries, one of the drivers for the second wave of COVID-19 infections is school reopening. And that\u2019s why schools have to remain closed since making sure that children keep the mask on, practice physical distancing, and handwashing is difficult. However, kids refusing to wear face mask could be because of the unfamiliarity, or masks weren\u2019t made to properly fit their faces. The drawing and painting competition is introduced to raise awareness among children, parents, and teachers of the importance of wearing face masks as this practice is needed to keep them protected from COVID-19. The competition\u2019s approach is a gimmicky strategy to drive awareness through the power of children. I am confident that the cooperation from all sides and ages will reduce the chance of a second wave of COVID-19 in Thailand. I would like to thank SCG Foundation for being an organization that prioritizes children and youth and promotes the importance of wearing face masks. This collaboration will keep children \u2013 the future of the nation \u2013 safer, especially when they are together at school.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The registration for the drawing and painting competition is open from 20 July until 31 August 2020. Twenty artworks in each category will be shortlisted by jury members on 5 September 2020 and made available to the public via SCG Foundation Facebook from 6-18 September. The artwork with the most likes will be awarded the People\u2019s Choice prize. For the final round, the winning artworks will be decided by the jury members, and the winners will be announced on 19 September 2020. A cash prize of 20,000 Baht will be given to each grand prize winner. A total of prizes worth 160,000 Baht and trophies and certificates will be presented to competition winners by Professor Emeritus Dr. Kasem Wattanachai. The schools of all winners will receive COVID-19 protection items consisting of a set of two temperature assessment devices and 100 alcohol-based spray bottles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
